Increase Your Chances of Getting a Job Applying Online
Applying for a job (especially online) can be an arduous task. Contrary to what many believe, even though one many not manually have to write a CV (as the case may be), one still does have to do painstaking work requiring a great deal of persisitence and patience in order to increase one's chances of getting the job. It goes beyond just “Clicking Apply” and/or “Submitting a CV/Resume”.
The fact is, though applying for jobs online has somewhat significantly increased the amount of potential jobs candidates can apply to, therefore increasing chances of obtaining a job, the waiting time to obtain a job and the possibility of getting a reply haven't increased as much. This is because just as it wasn't easy to come about job adverts previously, employers also didn't have so much access to such high volumes of candidates thereby giving those candidates who were able to access such job adverts a relatively higher chance (compare to today) of getting the job.
These days however, increased access to job adverts via several online portals including recruitment agencies such as JobsCameroon amongst others, the websites of employing institutions and businesses, has also increased the volume of candidates applying for the jobs available. With hundreds of thousands of job seekers all applying for the similar positions, the employers enjoy the leverage of “Choice” in candidate selection. This means that simply clicking the apply button and submitting a CV is no longer sufficient to get the job. CVs are sorted out by recruiters making use of various means including but not limited to AI-powered software and further sorted out by employers before doing a final selection. This means that every candidate in order to maximise their chances at being selected must have an “outstanding profile" in order to make it through the grueling selection process(es).
So how does the candidate increase their chances of getting selected?
Self-Investment/Education:
Educating oneself in “relevant skills” which are sought for by the market of the day would be an important step to increase employability. Having highly sought for skills clearly sets you a step ahead of the competition. The greater your ability and/or experience in the relevant skill, the greater your employment chances.
Refining/Tailoring your CV/Resume to needs:
Many candidates tend to have a single resume encompassing acquired skillsets and educational profile which they use to apply for a number of positions across board based on their abilities. It is to be understood however, that every position has “primary” and “complementary” educational and competency requirements. As such, your resume has to reflect your education and skill in a manner that matches these primary and complementary requirements. For instance, one might have obtained qualifications in Banking and Law. When applying for a Legal position, the legal aspects of one's education and work experience should be highlighted above others and the Banking should look like just a complementary skill. Basically the resume should be a “Legal profile with banking skills” and vice versa.

Regular and Consistent Application:
Regardless of how good one's resume, motivational and/or cover letter is, one can't rest on their laurels after applying for a single position with firm confidence that they'll get the job. Remember, there's probably hundreds to thousands of candidates applying for similar positions just as yourself and the interview process might also involve a lot of other quirks to eliminate candidates and get those who the employer deems fit for the job. Mind you, “chemistry” between the interviewer and interviewee can be the deciding factor of whether one gets that job or not.
Thus, consistent and regular applications, to as many jobs as possible, taking care to properly understand the job descriptions and requirements and tailoring your CV as closely as possible to fit the description of the desired candidate (of course with the understanding that you do have the relevant skills and/or experience) is the way to go to boost one's employability.
At JobsCameroon, we assist candidates through all stages of employment and also ease the work of employers by pre-vetting candidates in order to match the ideal candidates with trusted employers in order to obtain harmony between both ensuring that both employers and candidates are satisfied.
